Ireland Beat The 'Boks !
Saturday, 28th November 2009

Johnny Sexton capped a wonderful week by kicking 5 penalties to give Ireland a 15-10 win over the world champions South Africa in a foggy Croke Park this evening.

Ireland looked as if they were going to capitulate in the first half as their scrum creaked under huge pressure from the South African pack, but galvinised things quickly in the second half, adapted to the challenge and, amazingly, kept the Springboks scoreless for the entire half. Incredible really.

And what was even more encouraging was that Ireland had a real go at South Africa. Not everything went to to hand with a few basic handling errors, but at least the team had the ambition to attack at every opportunity.

And finally to man of the match Rob Kearney - he fielded over 20 up and unders under huge pressure and came out on top every time, not only fielding the ball, but making ground and retaining posession in most instances. A fabulous performance, both by him and the entire team.
